Long and deep explanation about Hilton Kuching's CNY offers

So yea, yesterday I, Mr Foodie, posted our first blog post with a super small intro welcoming y'all to our simple ol' blog that talks mainly about our travels and food indulgence. And to begin with, I posted a teaser to what's coming today - my CNY food experience at Hilton Kuching's Toh Yuen Chinese restaurant.
Well folks, today I shall reveal further what's in store for all you Lunar New Year celebrants and fans of Oriental cuisine in Toh Yuen's CNY offerings...

Prosperity Set Menus

This set menu is created for 10 persons per table at prices that start from RM588++ onwards. From now to Feb 20, you all are in for a big treat as the menu offers stuff like Double Boiled Duck Soup with Ginseng, Fried Venison with Black Pepper Sauce in Yam Ring and others.

Family Reunion Dinner

If you don't have a place to have your CNY reunion dinner yet, give Hilton Kuching a call and find out more on what the hotel has in store in its two Family Reunion Dinner menus designed by the hotel's Chinese Master Chef Kong especially for CNY eve (Feb 2). The menus are both designed for a table of 10 pax respectively and are priced at RM2,138++ and RM988++.
Both are nine-course menus. In the more expensive menu, you'll find stuff like Fresh sliced New Zealand Salmon Yee Sang (tried it!!!), Wok-Fried Lobster with Thai Tom Yam Sauce (doesn't that make your mouth water?), Braised Sliced Abalone with Sea Cucumber and Vegetables (sounds expensivo!!!),  Crispy Banana Ball (tried it!!!) and some other stuff.
The less expensive menu offers the salmon yee sang as well, Oven-baked Honey Cod Fish (tried it!!!), Stir-fried Fresh Australian Scallop with Dry Oyster and Vegetables (didn't get to try it, cos some other people were a whole lot hungrier than I was... muahaha!!!), Wok-fried Prawns with Lime Juice in Creamy Sauce (tried it!!!) and more...
What? I can't be doing all the work? Go grab the phone and call Hilton if you wanna know more...!!!

* If you happen to miss this promo for the eve of CNY, the hotel still offers the two menus for Feb 3 and 4. Well what d'ya know!!!

Here's the low-down on what I've tried:

Fresh sliced New Zealand Salmon Yee Sang
This is a must every Chinese New Year. Toh Yuen's version is topped with sliced salmon and other condiments. The yee sang wasn't too sweet or salty. Just very subtly flavoured, which I am totally fine with since I am quite the health-conscious foodie nowadays (but sometimes I just let myself loose and eat whatever the heck I want... hah!!!).

Oven-baked Honey Cod Fish
Ooo la la!!! I love this one... The flesh is flaky and tender and the honey sauce gives a boost of flavour to the otherwise bland fish. And the cuts of fish are quite generous too!!!

Wok-fried Prawns With Lime Juice In Creamy Sauce
It's mouth-watering. It's tangy. It's sweet. It's savoury. It's heaven!!! A great balance of flavours that works to satisfy all the flavour regions in the human tongue... (gosh my mouth is watering now that think about this dish again, darn!!!)

Steamed Glutinous Rice Hong Kong Style
All you guys at Hilton, please don't kill me for saying this... I'm not a fan of glutinous rice. Never was and never will be. If it's made into a “kuih” maybe I'll consider, but if it's served as part of a meal during lunch or dinner time then I'm not really gonna be jumping for joy.
That issue aside, I was okay with this particular dish. It was savoury and slightly sweet, and the quail eggs that top it lend a certain richness to the dish. If you like glutinous rice, I guarantee you'll love this one.

Crispy Banana Ball
I'm not a big dessert guy, but there are some dessert items that do strike my fancy. This is one of them. It's a deep fried dessert slightly bigger than a golf ball made with flour. Inside is a piping hot banana filling with a consistency that's heavier than that of a 'kaya'. The filling is sweet, but just a small amount of it is put into the fried ball, so the whole thing is just nicely balanced.
The balls come served with mixed fruit platter that includes your standard cuts of watermelon, apples, pineapples, grapes and such.
